Who could forget the iconic portrayal of the incredible basketball playing wunder-dog golden retriever Buddy in 1997's breakout hit "Air Bud"?
Born in 1988, Buddy had a rough start to life. He was picked up as a stray in the Sierra Nevada mountains in 1989 and adopted by dog basketball trainer Kevin di Cicco.
According to IMBD, Buddy's first foray into show biz was on America's Funniest Home Videos. He furthered his star dunking serious ball on David Letterman's "Stupid Pet Tricks" segment, from the Late Show with David Letterman.
Buddy starred in a couple episodes of the seminal Olsen Twin vehicle "Full House" as a young Comet. He was also featured as an adult pooch in an episode where uncle Jesse doesn't know how to play basketball. Contrary to popular internet belief, Buddy did not regularly play Comet throughout the Full House series run.
It wasn't until 1997 when Buddy would take on the role of a lifetime as Buddy in Air Bud. Co-written by his actual trainer and owner Kevin de Cicco, Buddy stole the hearts of America playing a rescue dog that could play basketball better than most of us combined.
Although Buddy died in 1998 from cancer, he left an unmistakable mark on athletic dog actors and canine cinema forever.
